Yamaha MG16XU mixer with transparent sound
If you want an analog mixer that passes your source signal as cleanly as possible, the Yamaha MG16XU is a strong option. This mixer from the MG series follows Yamaha’s transparent sound philosophy and combines it with studio-grade Class-A D-PRE preamps that offer wide frequency response, low distortion and a natural sound image.
The D-PRE preamps use an inverted Darlington circuit and, according to Yamaha, deliver full lows and smooth, sparkling highs. In practice, that gives you a clean starting point for live sound and recording, so you spend less time correcting with excessive EQ or extra effects processing.
Mix control and extensive connectivity
All mono channels give you 3-band EQ for focused tone shaping, plus a high-pass filter to remove unwanted low-frequency noise from your mix. Input channels with a PAD switch can handle signals from mic level to line level and help prevent clipping with hot input sources. Phantom power allows you to use condenser microphones.
The Yamaha MG16XU includes AUX sends and Master sends to expand your setup for external effects, recording devices or a monitoring system. This model also has stereo group buses and outputs for practical channel grouping, with assignment switches next to each channel fader. The connection layout is broad, including balanced Neutrik XLR connectors, combo jacks on the mono inputs, stereo line inputs via phone jacks, 2TR in via RCA and outputs such as XLR L/R, TRS, MONITOR OUT, AUX/FX OUT, GROUP OUT and a headphone output.
SPX effects and USB for live and recording
As an XU model, the Yamaha MG16XU includes Yamaha SPX digital multi-effects with 24 editable effects. Reverb and delay in particular add space and polish to speech, vocals or a live band mix. You can also connect an optional FC5 footswitch to turn the effects on and off.
USB routing adds extra flexibility: any incoming source sent via USB can be assigned to one of the stereo channels. That makes this Yamaha mixer suitable for a range of uses, from stage and rehearsal room to a compact recording setup.
