With the Kawai CA-401 R, you enter the Concert Artist range with a digital piano that focuses strongly on touch and control. The GrandFeel Compact keyboard uses long wooden keys, a triple-sensor system, let-off simulation and an Ivory Touch surface on the white keys, so repetition and accuracy feel very direct.
All 88 keys move on a balance pin system like an acoustic grand piano. The graded hammers, counterweights in the bass section and longer key length also make playing farther back on the keys more comfortable, which is especially useful for study and lessons. Digital piano sound, control and functions
For its piano sound, the Kawai CA-401 R uses recordings of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX Competition Grand and the Kawai EX concert grand. With Progressive Harmonic Imaging™ and 88-key sampling, you hear the individual character of each note, from soft pianissimo to powerful fortissimo, through a clear and powerful speaker system with high resolution and clean reproduction.
The OLED display keeps operation clear, so you can access functions directly from the panel without controlling them from the keyboard. The lesson function is also extensive, with etudes by Czerny, Burgmüller and Beyer, well-known Alfred piano courses, variable tempo, separate left- and right-hand parts, a four-hands mode and a recorder with space for 10,000 notes and up to 3 songs.
Bluetooth, headphones and practical details
The Kawai CA-401 R supports Bluetooth® MIDI and Bluetooth® Audio, alongside USB-to-host. This lets you connect a smartphone or tablet easily for apps such as Kawai PianoRemote or PiaBookPlayer, or play music and instructional videos through the built-in speaker system for play-along use.
Through the SHS headphone system, the piano sound gains more spatial depth over headphones, which makes longer listening more pleasant. The adjustable music rest can be angled or laid completely flat and includes folding pins to stop sheet music from slipping. The Grand Feel pedal system with sustain, soft and sostenuto matches the pedal feel and placement of a Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand. The Rosewood cabinet measures 136 cm wide, 48.5 cm deep and 91.5 cm high.
