The Kawai CN-301 B is a digital piano from the CN series and the successor to the popular CN39. You play on an improved Responsive Hammer III keyboard with better key guidance, extra noise damping, Ivory Touch key surfaces, let-off simulation, and a triple-sensor system. This creates a natural playing feel with graded key weighting, where the bass feels heavier than the upper register, much like an acoustic piano.
The Grand Feel pedal system adds to that familiar response. The resistance of the sustain, soft, and sostenuto pedals is matched to the pedals of a Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand, while the adjustable music rest can be set to your playing position or laid completely flat.

At the heart of the sound are carefully sampled tones from the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX and EX concert grands, recorded individually across all 88 keys. The CN-301 B offers up to 256-note polyphony and lets you shape the sound further with Virtual Technician, where you can adjust voicing, string resonance, damper resonance, damper noise, and hammer noise. Integrated reverb adds depth to the piano tone, while Low Volume Balance preserves expression when playing quietly.
The speaker system uses upward-facing speakers with 360° diffusers for broad sound dispersion in the room. With Bluetooth Audio, you can stream music wirelessly from a smartphone or tablet through the piano, and Bluetooth MIDI enables cable-free communication with apps. The redesigned control panel with large OLED display is intuitive to use, and PianoRemote and PiaBookPlayer on iOS or Android also let you manage sounds, settings, and lesson songs.
Recording, lessons, and connectivity
For study and everyday use, this Kawai digital piano offers plenty of practical options. The lesson function includes studies by Beyer, Czerny, and Burgmüller, as well as Alfred piano courses, with adjustable tempo and separate playback of the left or right hand. The four-hands mode allows teacher and student to play in the same octave, which works well in lessons.
You can record and play back your performance via MIDI and audio, on a computer or directly to a USB stick in MP3 or WAV format. There are also USB to Device, USB to Host, MIDI connections, and line-level outputs for linking external equipment or amplification in larger spaces.
