Walrus Audio delay pedal with four distinct voices
If you want a delay pedal that can change character quickly, the Walrus Audio ARP-87 gives you plenty of range in a compact housing. This effects pedal uses four main algorithms: digital, analog, lo-fi and slap back, letting you choose between crystal-clear repeats, added warmth and depth, distorted and murky echoes, or a short slapback echo for fast country-style lines.
The differences between the modes are easy to apply on your pedalboard. Digital keeps repeats clear and tight for rhythmic riffs, analog adds warmer color to chords and melodic lines, lo-fi lets you shape the frequency range of the repeats from warm and dirty to AM-radio-like, and slap makes short echoes instantly available.
Using the ARP-87 on your pedalboard
Walrus Audio gives the ARP-87 a smart bypass circuit, a tap switch and an X knob that changes function with the selected delay type. In digital, analog and slap modes, the X knob controls modulation depth; in lo-fi mode it controls filter width. When you switch delay types, a completely new algorithm loads and you need to tap the speed in again.
The momentary functions also make this delay pedal very immediate to use. When the pedal is off, you can temporarily activate the effect by holding the bypass switch. When the effect is already on, that same switch temporarily pushes the X parameter to maximum, while holding the tap switch brings the feedback to maximum for as long as you hold it.
Finish, modes and box contents
You can set the Walrus Audio ARP-87 to trails or no-trails depending on how you want the delay repeats to stop when the pedal is switched off. In trails mode they fade out naturally; in no-trails mode they stop abruptly. The enclosure measures 6.6 x 12.2 x 5.6 cm and power consumption is 100 mA.
The Frosted Charcoal finish with cream and mint details and artwork by Chris Castro gives the ARP-87 a distinctive look. In the box you get the pedal, manual, sticker, guitar pick and storage pouch.
