Backun Bb clarinet mouthpiece with an open playing feel
The Backun Corrado Signature is a professional Bb clarinet mouthpiece from the Signature Series, developed with Corrado Giuffredi and mouthpiece maker Richard Hawkins. This model is aimed at players looking for more flexibility and power, with a more open playing feel than a more all-round oriented design.
With a 1.20 mm tip opening, comparable to a Vandoren B45 style, and an open long facing, this clarinet mouthpiece responds in a way that gives advanced and professional players plenty of room for articulation and dynamics.
Tone, bore and reed compatibility
The traditional bore design is aimed at a focused yet flexible tone. In practice, the Backun Corrado Signature delivers a rich, vibrant sound with strong overtones, especially in the altissimo register.
Backun designed this Bb clarinet mouthpiece to work very well with both cane and synthetic reeds, including Légère. That makes it easier to keep using your preferred reed type without changing mouthpiece concept.
Material and practical finishing
The Marbled Green hard rubber, also called ebonite, gives the Backun Corrado Signature its distinctive look. Instead of traditional cork, this mouthpiece uses three interchangeable rubber O-rings in S, M and L for a proper seal with the barrel.
Thanks to 9-axis CNC production, each mouthpiece is identical to Giuffredi’s original design. If you want personal advice on mouthpieces and reed combinations, Magna Music can help with staff who are musicians themselves.
