The Sontronics Halo was developed for recording guitar amplifiers and cabinets. This dynamic microphone is tuned to capture the natural sound of an electric guitar, with enough bite and definition to often sit in a mix without extra EQ. That makes it a strong choice for studio recording and live use.
The supercardioid polar pattern keeps the focus on the source and picks up very little ambient sound. On a loud stage or in a room with difficult acoustics, that helps you capture a tighter, more focused guitar tone.
Halo construction and technical details
The striking vintage halo design is more than a visual detail. The capsule is suspended in four springs inside the circular frame, helping to absorb vibrations from the floor or stage. That is especially useful when placing the mic close to a cabinet or recording in a lively room.
The Sontronics Halo can handle a maximum SPL of over 140 dB, so it is suitable for very loud guitar amps. Its frequency range runs from 50 Hz to 15 kHz, sensitivity is -54 dB, impedance is ≤ 600 Ohm, and connection is via a 3-pin XLR.
More than a microphone for guitar amps
Although this guitar microphone was made primarily for electric guitar, the Sontronics Halo is also widely used on harmonica, brass instruments such as trumpet or saxophone, and snare drum. On harmonica it suits a classic gritty blues sound, while on snare it helps bring out the attack clearly.
