Martin D-18 dreadnought acoustic guitar
If you are looking for a classic dreadnought acoustic guitar with a timeless look, the Martin D-18 stands out straight away. This model combines a solid Sitka spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides, described here as delivering a warm, honest, clear and projecting tone.
The D-14 fret body and 25.4" scale give this Martin D-18 the familiar format of an American flattop guitar. Within the Martin Standard Series, this model belongs to the instruments that helped define the well-known dreadnought sound heard in folk, bluegrass, country and rock.
Construction, details and playing feel
The combination of a traditional dovetail neck joint, forward-shifted X-brace and scalloped bracing contributes to the character of this acoustic guitar. Vintage details such as open-geared tuners, antique white binding and aging toner give the Martin D-18 its classic 18-style appearance, while the lacquered top and body complete the finish neatly.
At the same time, it feels contemporary through the Modified Low Oval Shape neck and High-Performance Taper. With a 1 3/4" nut width, you get a little more room for the fretting hand, which can be helpful if you combine chords, flatpicking and fingerstyle. Standard Series build
The Martin D-18 is handmade in Nazareth, Pennsylvania and belongs to the Standard Series, the core of the Martin range. For this series, Martin uses all-solid wood and proven construction methods that have been tied to the brand for generations.
It comes strung with Martin Authentic Acoustic Lifespan 2.0 (MA550T) 13-56. Electronics are optional, and this model is available in both right-handed and left-handed versions, so you can choose the D-18 that matches your playing style.
