Drum tuner for fundamental pitch and lug matching
With the Overtone Overtone Labs Tune Bot Gig, you tune a drum by measuring both the fundamental pitch and the pitch at each lug. You clip the tuner to the drum hoop with the microphone end over the drum head, then read the frequency in Hz and the nearest musical note on the LCD screen.
When measuring the fundamental note, you strike lightly in the center of the head. The needle shows whether you are flat or sharp relative to the note: left means too low, right means too high. When the needle points straight up, the drum is tuned right on the note.
Practical tuning at each lug
To match the lugs, place the drum on a flat surface so the bottom head does not vibrate. Then measure by striking about one inch from each lug. This lets you compare tension around the head and adjust the nearest lugs by loosening or tightening them.
According to the included quick start guide, you are usually close enough when all lug pitches fall within a 2 Hz range. That makes the Overtone Labs Tune Bot Gig a focused tool for drummers who want to read and adjust drum tuning with precision.
