Denis Wick tuba mouthpiece with rich orchestral sound
The Denis Wick DW5286-3 is a tuba mouthpiece known as Denis Wick’s most popular orchestral model. Its round cup, enormous throat and large backbore produce a rich, organ-like sound with a lush character that blends well in ensemble and band settings.
For Eb tuba, this model gives you a huge low register and turns the sound into a powerful orchestral voice. The Denis Wick DW5286-3 is also widely used as a band mouthpiece because of its broad, blending tone.
Build, dimensions and playing feel
With a 31.5 mm inner rim diameter, 8.0 mm rim width and 8.78 mm bore, this mouthpiece combines a deep cup with a small shank. The well-defined inner rim gives a secure feel on the embouchure, while the excellent silver plating adds extra grip while playing.
Because the throat is so large, the upper register does require a strong embouchure to keep pitch stable. If you want personal advice on mouthpieces and fit, Magna Music can help with musicians in the shop who know the practical differences.
